The plane was parked inside a hangar at the airport when crews made the discovery.

A dead fetus reportedly was found Tuesday morning onboard an out-of-service American Airlines plane in New York City.

NY reported the Airbus A321, flight number 1942, departed Charlotte, NC on Monday night and arrived at LaGuardia late Monday night.

Sources say the fetus was five to six months along.

According to sources, Flight 1942 from Charlotte, North Carolina, arrived at Terminal B on Monday around 10:44 p.m.

Officials at American Airlines said they were co-operating with the authorities.

The city medical examiner's office says it will release the cause of death of the fetus when its findings are complete.

An under-developed fetus was discovered on an American Airlines flight at LaGuardia Airport.

"We are looking into that", said Silvia Estevez, a spokesperson for Queens, New York, District Attorney Richard A. Brown.

"This is not something that you want to find", said one American Airlines passenger.

LaGuardia also responded to an upset Twitter user with further explanation: "We're delayed due to the medical needs of a customer".
