Ricciardo Wins Chinese Grand Prix

The win was the Australian driver's sixth in F1.

Bottas admitted feeling a bit hard done by in his 100th grand prix, particularly since the timing of the safety car's deployment didn't allow him to stop for tyres when the Red Bulls did. No one could have ever predicted what has gone down as one of the most tense, unpredictable and thrilling F1 races ever.

In Mercedes' defence, Ferrari also chose not to pit Raikkonen, but both teams suffered as a result.

"It's so close between Red Bull, Ferrari and us", he said.

The Australian had appeared set for a pretty tiresome drive to fifth in the first half of the race, without the pace to challenge those ahead and a solid margin to Kimi Raikkonen behind.

It was introduced so marshals could clear debris from the hairpin after a collision between Toro Rosso's Pierre Gasly and Brendon Harley. It resulted in Gasly punting the right-rear section of his teammate's auto, which resulted in many bits of sharp carbon-fibre being strewn all over that section of the race track. Debris was sprayed about and the safety auto came out on lap 31 of 56. And that is where the race turned on its head.

When asked what differentiates the two Red Bull drivers, Horner added, "They're different ages".

A mid-race Safety Car gave Red Bull the chance to roll the dice with both Ricciardo and teammate Max Verstappen, pitting both drivers for a second time to give them fresher tyres than the rival Mercedes and Ferrari drivers, all of whom stayed out.

"I don't think I have to say anything here", a disgusted Vettel said over his radio in an obvious reference to the Dutchman's aggressive style.

Verstappen tried passing Hamilton but ended up going off the track, he lost a place to Ricciardo in that move.

The Australian, who had already passed Kimi Raikkonen, then picked off Hamilton, Vettel and Bottas to clinch a stunning Chinese Grand Prix win.

Ricciardo's iconic "Shoey" made a return to the podium as Aston Martin Red Bull Racing team celebrated the victory together.

In came Max Verstappen and Ricciardo, the only front-runners to do so. And so, having sparked a brief spat with Hamilton at the previous race in Bahrain, this week Verstappen found himself needing a chat with Vettel.

Mercedes' Hamilton missed out on the podium for the first time this season, crossing the line fifth behind Verstappen.

It was a decision that would cost early leaders Valtteri Bottas and Sebastian Vettel their chance to win, with a spectacular charge from Ricciardo allowing him to take victory for Red Bull, bouncing back from a tough Saturday that saw him nearly start last on the grid.

"Saturday and Sunday felt like a disaster from my side", the Briton said, despite setting a record of 28 successive scoring finishes.

Shocker: While it was celebrations for one Red Bull it was disappointment for the other.

The next round of the championship will take place on the 27-29 April weekend at the Baku City Circuit in Azerbaijan.
