"When the Tamil Nadu government issued a warning to the fishermen, what happened to our government, where were they?" asked an angry group of anxious relatives waiting to hear about their near ones at Vizhinjam near here.
Meanwhile, some fishermen in Kanyakumari district have said that the Indian Coast Guard personnel was carrying out search operations only within 40 nautical miles from the shore and not venturing into deep sea, 200 nautical miles from the shore, where many fishermen go for deep sea fishing.
Tamil Nadu State Revenue Control Room has said a total of 690 people have been rescued so far.
The intensity of the cyclone is likely to weaken on Monday and subsequently on Tuesday.
Hundreds of women protested on the roads in Neerodi village, demanding the authorities trace their loved ones who are still missing since Ockhi struck southern Tamil Nadu and Kerala on November 30.
"The Indian Navy, India Coast Guard, Indian Air Force, have rescued fishermen from Tamil Nadu and Kerala too".
He said he saw several bodies floating by when he was in mid sea.
"I was hanging on in the deep sea unable to move for two nights and three days, and only today help came from a passing boat and I was saved". Prior to this, 68 fishing boats with 952 fishermen on board were rescued.
"I appealed to them that the search operations with even warships are going on and will continue till the last of the missing fishermen is brought back". Talking to reporters after a meeting with CM Pinarayi Vijayan to review steps taken by the Centre and the state, Sitharaman said, "We want to make sure that each and every fishermen who had set sail from Kerala comes back safe". So far 25 people have been rescued from Lakshadweep. In the eastern seaboard region, the release said, nine ships and two aircrafts were taking up search and rescue operations.
Several agencies, including the Coast Guard, the Navy and the Air Force, worked together to rescue over 200 stranded fishermen on Friday.
