Coric ends Federer's winning streak to take Halle title

Borna Coric Roger Federer

The 21-year-old ended Federer's 20-match grass-court winning streak, his bid for a tenth Halle crown and his brief reign at No. 1, with Rafael Nadal resuming his spot at the top of the rankings.

Rochus did break Roger once in the second set but that gave him nothing, serving at only 49% and losing serve twice in each set. Coric held his nerve to take victory.

"Winning always feels good, losing should hurt and it does a bit", 20-time major victor Federer said.

The defeat meant that Rafa Nadal will return to the top of the world rankings on Monday. Federer served at 77% and he fired 18 aces and many more service winners, keeping the points on his racquet and dominating at the net as well with his clinical volleys that Christophe had no answer for. He looked every bit the Wimbledon contender as he aims to return to the stage where he lost to Federer in the final previous year.

"Roger just played too good today".

Novak Djokovic rose five spots to No. 17 after reaching the final at Queen's Club last week.

Former US Open champion Cilic also lost the 2013 Queen's final and experienced fresh heartache against Federer in this year's Australian Open final.

The 20-time grand slam champion was far from his fluid best throughout the tournament and he came unstuck against unseeded Croatian Coric, who broke two times to claim only his second ATP title and his first on grass. He has also been almost unstoppable on grass with 20 straight victories.

The 28-year-old Czech claimed her fifth WTA title of the season, as well as a tour-leading 37th match win of the year, as she came from a set down to triumph.
