Constance Wu explains unhappy response to her sitcom renewal

‘The Rookie,’ ‘American Housewife,’ ‘Bless This Mess,’ ‘Single Parents,’ and ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ renewed by ABC

Constance Wu is explaining those wild tweets slamming the show she stars in, Fresh Off The Boat, and apologizing while at it, but fans are not buying it.

Leaving no doubt on her true feelings, a fan's congratulations on the "great news" was slapped down by Wu with a sullen reply: "No, it's not".

She says in the statement she enjoys the show and the people she works with but that the other project she was looking at "would have challenged me as an artist".

An ABC spokesman declined comment, and a Wu representative didn't immediately respond to an email.

Constance Wu's Crazy Rich Asians co-star Gemma Chan also got her name dragged into this when she reportedly "liked" a tweet criticizing Wu.

In a lengthy tweet Saturday, the series regular addresses the reasons behind her Friday tweets expressing anger and disappointment that her ABC comedy had gotten another season. I say fuck a lot.

She continued: "Y'all are making a lot of assumptions about what I was saying". I love the word.

Less than an hour after her original tweets, Wu clarified on Twitter, denying that her strong emotions were caused by the renewal.

Earlier today, when Fresh Off The Boat announced its sixth season via Instagram, Wu commented "dislike" on the post. I love the cast&crew. Plz know, Im so grateful for FOTB [Fresh Off the Boat] renewal.

"That was not a rampage, it was just how I normally talk. You're making an assumption". "I'm proud to be a part of it".

"Set in the '90s, hip-hop loving teenager Eddie Huang (Hudson Yang) and his family have lived in Orlando for a few years now and are assimilating nicely into the suburban American lifestyle".

After giving it a little bit of time, Wu came back with another tweet, this one a bit less argumentative. "And when you don't have pressure, you can be free and experiment with the characters and play around", she added.

Back in October, in response to a fan who asked why she wasn't getting more film offers, she responded that she has been forced to turn down a number of recent opportunities, because she is filming Fresh Off The Boat for "9 months out of the year".
