Cam Newton, Kelvin Benjamin Have Confrontation Before Game

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton

When Benjamin said Newton was an inaccurate passer last week, the quarterback didn't seem bothered by it. "If you would've put me with any other quarterback, let's be real, you know what I'm saying?"

Benjamin was a first-round pick by the Panthers in 2014 and played in 40 career games with them, catching 184 passes for 2,424 yards and 19 touchdowns. "It just felt like I wasn't in that position".

Remember. the Bills wideout blasted Cam in the media this week - essentially blaming Newton for all of his struggles in Carolina the past few years. The video was overlaid with the captions "All love on this side" and "No excuses just work". During pregame warmups, Newton appeared to attempt to make peace with Benjamin, who clearly had no interest in chopping it up with Newton before the Carolina quarterback shrugged off his former WR and gave up on the exchange.

Newton offered Benjamin a handshake, but the wide receiver walked away.

Benjamin's comments with The Athletic brought the conflict into the spotlight.

"I've spoken with Kelvin, and that's not how I want us to handle things like that". I don't know, man ... Charlotte NBC News anchor Nick Carboni posted Benjamin's ripping of Newton on Twitter.

The Carolina Panthers opened the 2018 preseason with a 28-23 victory over their cousins from up north, the Buffalo Bills.
