SpaceX's Falcon 9 Launches Successfully On Satellite Mission

The satellite, which will run television and data traffic for over a billion people, will now deploy its solar panels and use electrically powered ion thrusters to jockey itself into the correct position. SpaceX offered to make up some of the lost time by extending the second burn of the rocket's upper-stage Merlin engine by a few seconds, a maneuver created to cut roughly in half the number of days it would take the satellite to settle in its operational orbit, to about 45 days.
