The Illinois Department of Public Health is alerting the public to the potential of contracting Zika virus while traveling overseas. All of those diagnosed with Zika in the US were reportedly infected in countries overseas where Zika has begun circulating, health officials say.
Any pregnant woman reporting such travel and Zika symptoms during or within two weeks of her travel should be tested for the virus. An estimated 80 percent of people infected with the virus have no symptoms at all, making it hard for pregnant women to know whether they have been infected.
