Photos shared on social media by Stelter and others show police investigating the alleged threat near the Time Warner Center complex, where CNN's NY head office is housed.

The NYPD is investigating a bomb threat near CNN NYC's office at Columbus Circle.

News of the threat was communicated earlier on Twitter by CNN anchor Brian Stetler.

"We were told to evacuate the building and to do it as soon as possible".

"It's kind of a repeat situation of what we went through in October", Lemon said on CNN.

According to the official New York Police Department's Twitter account, the bomb threat was called in at 10:07 p.m. ET.

Bomb squads were put on standby in case any devices were found, police said.

In October, CNN was targeted in a wave of pipe bombs mailed to the network as well as to prominent critics of President Donald Trump.

Police gave the all clear shortly before midnight Eastern time (5am United Kingdom time) after dozens of police officers searched the building floor by floor.

"We were evacuated in the middle of my live show", reported CNN host Don Lemon.

In October, CNN's NY headquarters was evacuated after a package containing a crude pipe bomb, which was addressed to ex-Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) chief John Brennan, was found. "FAKE NEWS - THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!" the tweet said.
