Veteran action director and Ajay Devgn's father Veeru Devgan dies at 77

Devgan Senior had choreographed the action sequences for numerous hit Bollywood movies, effortlessly straddling multiple eras.

Veteran action director and father of actor Ajay Devgn, Veeru Devgan, died on Monday morning at the age of 77.

The funeral will be held here at the Vile Parle West Crematorium on Monday evening.

Shah Rukh also arrived to pay the last respect. He has also directed and acted in a few movies.

Vicky Kaushal's father, action director Sham Kaushal wrote, "RIP Veeru Devgan ji".

As the news of the director's death broke out, numerous Bollywood celebrities took no time to express their condolences and be there for Ajay Devgn and the grieving family. A legend of Hindi Cinema.

The late action director encountered breathing trouble after which he was immediately admitted to Surya Hospital, Santa Cruz. Heartfelt condolences to @ajaydevgn & @KajolAtUN May his soul rest in peace. He had also directed the 1999 film "Hindustan Ki Kasam", starring Ajay and megastar Amitabh Bachchan.

One of Veeru's most famous action scenes is son Ajay's first appearance on the silver screen - balancing on two bikes in his introduction in his 1991 debut film "Phool Aur Kaante". Several noted figures, including Anupam Kher, director duo Abbas-Mustan, Tamil actor Siddharth, Nushrat Bharucha, IFTDA president Ashoke Pandit, Kunal Kohli, Anees Bazmee took to Twitter to pen heartfelt condolences.
