Sunday was not the first time that Biden mixed up names on the 2020 campaign trail.
Biden has made contrasting Trump's rhetoric with what he considers presidential a hallmark of his campaign. "I thought the speech was going to be about agriculture, but he spoke about the way it is". It's both clear language and in code.
"His low energy, vacant-eyed mouthing of the words written for him condemning white supremacists this week, I don't believe fooled anyone, at home or overseas", he said.
Biden's campaign called the remarks a 'Battle for the Soul of Our Nation'.
"Yikes...have fun mitigating that one", he tweeted.
"How far is it from Trump's saying this "is an invasion" to the shooter in El Paso declaring 'his attack is a response to the Hispanic invasion of Texas?' Not far at all", Biden said in a fiery address. Trump said if Biden becomes president "it will be one big crash" which Trump said would make China happy.
"The words of a president matter". They can send our courageous women and men to war.
"We have a president who has aligned himself with the darkest forces in this nation. And that's what I believe Donald Trump has chosen to do".
Biden's remarks come after the president formally condemned hatred and white supremacy on Monday, calling on all Americans to unite against the rising tide of racist violence against innocent people.
Biden ran through a list of incendiary comments by Trump, including comparing the immigrant Caravan as an 'invasion.' The El Paso shooter railed against Hispanics and complained about an invasion. He told CNN earlier this week that Trump talks about Muslims and people of color in "almost subhuman terms". "It's up to us" to fight against hate and for American values, he said. We now have more mass shootings than we've had days in this year.
"May God bless the memory of those who perished in Toledo", the president said, referring to a city more than 160 kilometres away from Dayton, the location of a massacre on Sunday. Almost two dozen other Democratic hopefuls will also flock to the state in the coming days to take part in the retail politics tradition, as well as in a major fundraising dinner in Clear Lake - the Iowa Democratic Wing Ding.
"Trump offers no moral leadership; no interest in unifying the nation, no evidence the presidency has awakened his conscience in the least". Biden is also expected to attend Everytown For Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action "Urgent Gun Safety Presidential Forum" on Saturday in Des Moines.
