The last Belmont Stakes victor to break from post No. 1 was Touch Gold in 1997, although Tapwrit won the third leg of the Triple Crown previous year from post No. 2.

"Wayne Lukas told me a long time ago when I was just getting started. he said he's made millions of dollars running horses where people told him he didn't belong, and if your horse is doing good don't be afraid to give them a chance", Romans said. Preakness runner-up Bravazo and Vino Rosso are next at 8-1, followed by Gronkowski and Tenfold at 12-1, Blended Citizen at 15-1 and 30-1 shots Noble Indy, Free Drop Billy and Restoring Hope. Justify is an overwhelming betting favorite to repeat the feat and win at Belmont.

But no horse has a better track record at defying the odds than the favorite, Justify.

Like American Pharoah, Justify's trainer is Bob Baffert, one of the top-earning trainers in the sport.

Justify is scheduled to arrive at Belmont Park on Wednesday afternoon after traveling on a special transport plane from Louisville International Airport to Long Island's MacArthur Airport in the morning.

Aside from all the usual speculation that comes in the aftermath of a post-position draw, Justify is worthy of his praise, as he's excelled in muddy wins at the Kentucky and the Preakness. Both sat out the Preakness after finishing far back in the Derby. But none have won from the rail since Empire Maker in 2003. Bravazo finished sixth and Vino Rosso ran ninth in the Kentucky Derby. His fleet offspring, such as Lady Aurelia, Caravaggio, Acapulco, No Nay Never and Sioux Nation, tend to label Scat Daddy as a speed type rather than a horse with stamina, but Scat Daddy performed well in the 1 1/8-mile Florida Derby with Lady of Shamrock, Daddys Lil Darling, Dacita and Harmonize all winning at classic distances or beyond.

In the past 20 races, every post from 1 through 13 has produced at least one victor, except for Gate 10.

The 150th Belmont Stakes will take place on Saturday, June 9 in Elmont, N.Y. The race is held at Belmont Park with a post time of 6:37 p.m. ET.
