Belmont Stakes 2016: Date, time, location and more

The final race of this year's Triple Crown will be the Belmont Stakes, set for June the 11th at Belmont Park in NY. Jockey Kent Desormeaux entered the race with two Preakness wins and more starts in the race (13) than the rest of the jockeys combined.

Exaggerator with Kent Desormeaux aboard wins the 141st Preakness Stakes horse race as Cherry Wine (1) with Corey Lanerie atop and Nyquist (3) with Mario Gutierrez aboard come in at Pimlico Race Course, Saturday, May 21, 2016, in Baltimore.

Nyquist's bid for the Triple Crown ended after Exaggerator won the 141st Preakness Stakes in the sloppy conditions at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Nyquist gamely fought to stay within a length of the leader deep into the stretch, but exhausted and was passed late by Cherry Wine who finished second.

Exaggerator probably will be the betting favorite in the Belmont, despite Nyquist's previous dominance over the horse. The son of Uncle Mo beats the offspring of Curlin in a maiden race last June at Santa Anita and the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, along with the San Vicente and Kentucky Derby this year.

Although he held a narrow advantage into the first turn, Nyquist was already held out wasting precious ground as Gutierrez either could not, or would not cede his forward position as the pace was contested.

I'll Have Another won the first two races, but was scratched from the final leg at Belmont due to a tendon injury. "But I thought he ran a real gutsy race (Saturday), and just wanted to make sure he looked good (Sunday) morning before committing to going to the Belmont". Nyquist got nosed out for second by Cherry Wine.

O'Neill, meanwhile, explained that he had no regrets about Nyquist's fast start.

Finally, when it became apparent that Exaggerator had finally gotten the best of Nyquist, O'Neill dropped his hands to his side and shrugged his shoulders in defeat.

"I did what I could to get him happy and fresh and strong". "Now that no one is going to sweep the Triple Crown, this is the rubber match". Homeboykris, a 9-year-old gelding ridden by Horacio Karamanos, won the first race of the day, then collapsed and died shortly after posing for pictures in the winner's circle. Nyquist is still 4-1 against his horse after all. He had finished 16th in the 2010 Kentucky Derby.

Pramedya's jockey, Daniel Centeno, was thrown to the turf and fractured his right collarbone. "The difference is that the other horses may not be as good", Desormeaux said.

"I'm proud of my horse, proud of the jockey", Romans said.
