Bat-Signal lights up Los Angeles in tribute to Adam West

Tonight, something pretty cool is going to be happening at Los Angeles City Hall - or should we say, Gotham City Hall?

"Family Guy" will pay tribute to Adam West, who starred as the Mayor in the series, on Sunday.

Mayor Eric Garcetti, addressed the "citizens of Gotham", which no doubt pleased all those keen Batman fans out there. DC Comics and Los Angeles are teaming up to shine a Bat-signal in the sky on Thursday evening as an ode to the the former Dark Knight. Many fans and celebrities, including current Batman Ben Affleck, have already paid their respects on Twitter, referring to West as "My Batman". He had homes in Los Angeles and Palm Springs, but he and his wife, Marcelle, spent most of their time at their ranch near Sun Valley, Idaho.

While West had an acting career that spanned decades, he was best known, and most loved, for his iconic role as the title character in the Batman TV series from 1966.

Adam West attends a "Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders" event at New York Comic-Con on October 6, 2016 in New York City.

After serving in the Army, he went to Hollywood and changed his name to Adam West, and began appearing on a number of television series, including "Bonanza", "Perry Mason" and "Bewitched".

Justin Harrison, 43, wore a Batman costume and said West was not only an actor but someone who "inspired millions".

"I'm here to tell you that my friend Adam would want every single one of you to be incredibly happy and to be joyous".

Garcetti was joined by Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck and several notable guests who came to remember the iconic actor. MacFarlane also said he was privileged to have worked with West.

"I grew up watching him", the 29-year-old said.
