Barack Obama explains 'dad moves' on David Letterman's new Netflix talk show

Barack Obama David Letterman The Late Show

My Next Guest Needs Know Introduction premieres Friday at 12:01 a.m. PT on Netflix.

Former President Barack Obama gave parents tips on dancing and joked about his "dad moves" in a Netflix-released teaser of David Letterman's newest talk show, "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman".

Obama said Prince pulled Obama's younger daughter Sasha up to dance with him. When an evidently amused Letterman responds to Obama's quip about "karate kicks", the latter responds with a pertinent question: "Is that one of the things you do?"

Barack Obama: And I think the key is, is what we call staying in the pocket.

Obama goes on to explain what he means by that, pointing out how dads run the risk of "trying stuff they can't really pull off" once they step outside the pocket. "You know, they start doing like karate kicks and all kinds of stuff", he says, before asking whether Letterman, who has a son, karate kicks as a dance move.

Interested in Barack Obama? It turns out there's an art to keeping those "dad moves" in check, and Obama has mastered it.

The monthly talk show will see Letterman interview an impressive lineup of influential guests.

Episodes for the hour-long, six-part series will be rolled out once a month, with future chats confirmed with Jay-Z, George Clooney, Malala Yousafazi, Tina Fey and "shock jock" extraordinaire Howard Stern. Like he always used to do on Late Night, Letterman laughs it off.
