Atlanta Falcons sign defensive tackle Dontari Poe

The two-time Pro Bowler from the University of Memphis has been a key contributor for the Kansas City Chiefs since being drafted in 2012.

Poe also made headlines last season by throwing a flawless jump-pass for a touchdown - a highlight the Falcons apparently are well aware of. Poe spent his first five seasons with the Chiefs, but the two sides were unable to reach an agreement on a contract extension to keep him in Kansas City. Pioli is an executive in the Falcons front office alongside Thomas Dimitroff, the team's general manager.

The wait for Dontari Poe to make a decision on where he'll play next season ended Thursday when defensive tackle picked the Atlanta Falcons over the Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville and Miami.

As a fan, you want your team to be so good that players will play for your team for less money. I'm going to let the process [play] its way out. "We'll just let the process unfold as we go here". Logan is a physical player, and his skill set and aggressiveness will hopefully add a spark to the Chiefs defense in the 2017 season.

In 2016, Poe didn't miss a snap as he recorded a career-high nine pressures in 885 snaps, 16th-most among all National Football League defensive linemen, to go along with 27 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks.

On Tuesday, the Chiefs announced that they signed free agent defensive tackle Bennie Logan. This category includes offensive tackle Branden Albert and cornerback Sean Smith.

Poe was seen as a big upgrade over Jordan Phillips or at the very least a solid option to rotate with Phillips giving the Dolphins fresh leg options.
