Francis' key cardinal advisers announced the decision Wednesday, a day before Francis meets with US church leaders who have been discredited anew by the latest accusations in the Catholic Church's decades-long sex abuse and cover-up scandal.
The Philippines' representative to this meeting is expected to be Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles, president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines.
The meeting at the Vatican in February is believed to be the first of its kind, and signals a realisation from the highest levels of the church that clerical abuse is a global problem. And, Pittsburgh Bishop David Zubik said he would agree with the name change in the best interests of the school.
