Apple starts rolling out credit card to selected users

Cupertino, Calif. -based Apple has sent a limited number of sign-up invitations for the credit card, a card that the tech giant is trying to differentiate from others on the market.

Apple (AAPL +0.9%) and Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS) have started issuing Apple Cards to consumers.

A dashboard built into iOS on iPhones lets you manage your card. "If you do not maintain a Required Device, we may close your account". It creates a unique card number on your iPhone, which you can use to shop online if you're not paying with Apple Pay.

First, open the packaging of your Apple Card, and the second step is to wake up your iPhone. The device will automatically detect the card and throw a pop-up carrying an Activate button.

Apple will likely use Qualcomm's ultrasonic fingerprint technology when the time is right and by then, it should be working as intended.

Apple will not charge late fees if you miss a payment.

Applicants are required to be a USA citizen or a lawful resident of the United States, and must be at least 18 years of age. 2% Daily Cash is earned for Apple Pay transactions, 3% for purchases from Apple (including the App Store), and 1% for everything else. So if you're thinking about upgrading anytime soon, it's probably not worth it to try and hold off for another two years.

According to a customer agreement released last month, purchase of cryptocurrencies through The Apple Card will not be permitted. Different tones represent the trend of your purchases and will be charted in a lovely array on the on-screen card and will shift and blend according to the kinds of things you buy. For those who don't get invited for early access, the full Apple Card launch will arrive before the end of August. You will have to glance at the screen to authenticate.

While it's not yet available for everyone, Apple has also debuted a series of explainer videos.

Once your application has been approved, it will show up inside the Wallet app nearly immediately and ready for use. The physical card itself is optional, but free, for people who sign up for Apple Card.

Meanwhile, The Verge's Nilay Patel has received his physical titanium card, and says the card is "fairly thick and felt a little bit heavier than the typical metal credit card".

Mainly, the virtual credit card's rewards metrics are accomplished through cashback incentives. It works like any other credit card.
