Apple shows off three new iPhones and smartwatch to detect heart problems

The new iPhones are likely to start at $800 for the LCD model, $900 for the iPhone X update and $1,000 for 6.5-inch OLED model, up from last year's starting prices of $699, $799 and $999, according to Nomura Group.

The iPhone Xs has the same size 5.8-inch OLED display as the iPhone X, but Apple says the phone's "Super Retina" display packs more pixels and 60 percent greater dynamic range than its predecessor.

A demonstration of the newly released Apple products is seen following the product launch event at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California, U.S. September 12, 2018.

The tech giant unveiled three new iPhones overnight, including its biggest and most expensive model yet.

The new watch also has revamped health features that put Apple at the top of its health game.

The company has been affected by leaks in the past.

Compared to previous Apple events, the company didn't unveil any surprises that caught various media outlets and analysts off guard.

"Did they really name the new iPhone the 'excess"?' XS?

Joining the XS and XS Max will be the iPhone XR, a lower-cost model that comes in a variety of fun colors including blue, coral, yellow and red. While the iPhone X, XS and XS Max have pressure-sensitive 3D Touch screens that activate the flashlight or camera when you press down hard, the iPhone XR only has haptic feedback.

There's a slightly better screen, some improved water resistance and Apple's new A12 Bionic processor to make everything run that little bit faster.

The iPhone XR is also able to take Portrait Mode photos, despite the fact that it has only a single camera.

During the launch event, Apple's Phil Schiller said the new phones are 'incredible'. The iPhone Xs screen measures 5.8-inches, just like the iPhone X. The iPhone Xs Max has a 6.5-inch display. On the iPhone X, I found myself constantly having to failover and enter my pin to login far more than I ever had to do with Touch ID.

Within Apple's newest iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max is Apple's latest systems-on-chip, the A12 Bionic. Williams said the new Apple Watch could help detect atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat), although he hedged that it won't "catch every instance". It also determines when a user has fallen or slipped and calls emergency services if the person has been motionless for one minute. As expected, the phones will now come with up to 512GB of storage, up from the 256GB max on last year's models. When that happened, Apple should have had a swallow-its-pride moment and just integrated the fingerprint scanner into the back of the phone where most people naturally rest their forefinger - where the Google Pixel devices put it.

This bigger display will allow for richer, more customizable watch faces, which you can outfit with new complications including your favorite contacts and multiple time zones.
