Apple launches Amazon Channels, offers downloads for HBO content

When we asked when other TV brands would get the app, Apple declined to comment beyond saying "it will come in the future". Apple's iOS 12.3 and tvOS 12.3 updates will bring the revamped Apple TV app to all compatible devices along with support for AirPlay 2.As of now, the new Apple TV app only allows consumers to watch and rent movies in India.

The redesigned Apple TV app now features a Channels tab, where users can find their favorite content from various networks and streaming services, as well as a curated section, where content will be surfaced on a per-user basis, depending on interests. You can now update all of your devices to the iOS 12.3, macOS Mojave 10.14.5, tvOS 12.3, and watchOS 5.2.1 software releases via OTA (Over-the-Air) updates.

iOS 12.3 also adds support for AirPlay 2-enabled TVs, so those without Apple TV boxes can share content, including videos, photos and music from their iOS devices.

You can now use Apple Pay to make purchases from iTunes, the App Store and Apple Books. The added Apple Pay options are coming to users in the US, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Russia, Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates, but they might not be available in all of those locations just yet. Later this year, customers with certain Vizio, LG and Sony TVs will be able to use the TV app using AirPlay 2. It offers personalized recommendations from a library of around 150 video apps and streaming services and 100,000 iTunes movies and TV shows, Apple said.

More will be announced later in the year when Apple officially releases the new service in over 100 countries.

Subscribers to the channels can watch and download shows and movies both online and offline. While only a small slice of the overall SVOD universe is participating at launch - and Netflix is definitely not being integrated anytime soon - the mission is to present a comprehensive viewing offering inside the TV app.
