Australian actress Cate Blanchett is poised to play the iconic comedian Lucille Ball in a new film.

There is no release date yet for Lucy and Desi, but judging from the talent attached to the film, Amazon will probably be doing an awards season push for the biopic.

Deadline first reported the news.

Though Lucille initially filed for divorce in 1944, she finally went through with the legal separation in 1960, married again and died in 1989.

Lucy and Desi has the full cooperation of Ball and Arnaz's two children, Lucie Arnaz Luckinbill and Desi Arnaz, Jr., and Sorkin will be utilizing both stars' autobiographies for his script.

Because of the success of I Love Lucy, Ball was able to start her own production company, Desilu, making her one of, if not the most, powerful women in television.

Blanchett, meanwhile, has been nominated for six acting awards by the Academy, taking home the Oscar for best performance in 2004's "The Aviator" and 2013's "Blue Jasmine". Aaron Sorkin, the writer of West Wing and The Social Network, has written the screenplay. She has also famously played the role of mystical elf-queen Lady Galadriel in Peter Jackson's film adaptations of J.

The studio is said to be moving quickly to find a big name actor for the role of Desi Arnaz, with Javier Bardem mentioned as one possibility. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will trace the life of Ball, a venerable icon who starred on self-produced TV sitcoms I Love Lucy, The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour, The Lucy Show, Here's Lucy, and Life with Lucy, among a trove of other credits.
