All New Star Wars Trilogy Coming After Episode IX

Disney just performed an old Jedi mind trick on Wall Street

The Walt Disney Co. has announced that Rian Johnson will craft a new trilogy for the "Star Wars" "universe", greatly broadening the director's command over the ever-expanding space saga created by George Lucas.

Variety additionally reported that a liver-action Star Wars television series is in the works and will premiere on Disney's new streaming service, which is set to launch by the end of 2019.

The new trilogy does not however have a release date yet. In addition to the "Star Wars" TV series, Disney is working on TV series adaptations of Pixar's "Monsters Inc.", the Disney Channel's "High School Musical" franchise and an original entry from Marvel.

"We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on "The Last Jedi, '" Johnson and Bergman said in a statement".

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15, 2017.

After impatiently counting down the days to a new Star Wars movie's release, analyzing every frame of footage in the trailers, and poring over any information they can find, the one thing that's most important to fans is the answer to the question "is the film any good?"

Daisy Ridley's character, Rey, has taken the focus in the new films, though the Skywalker family is still front-and-center, and Rey's own heritage is still unknown.

Johnson knows that with great power comes great responsibility and should fans react to his upcoming Star Wars film with lukewarm to cold responses it could put even more pressure on him to deliver with the new saga. He also said he expects the Disney-branded streaming service to be priced "substantially below" Netflix's $10.99 a month because the service will have less content overall.
