Alan Shearer doesn't buy Mike Ashley's very defensive end of season statement

Rafa Benitez knows that his squad have been very fortunate with injuries this season and the squad needs significant strengthening, the last few months of the season saw Rafa relying on the same 11 players week in week out, with nobody capable of coming in and matching what they could give.

Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur are among the teams keeping tabs on Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles, according to reports in the British media.

"For me, the key has been the unity, togetherness between fans, players, staff, everyone, and the work-rate of this group of players".

Newcastle United hero Alan Shearer has many doubts about the possibility of Mike Ashley providing the club's manager with sufficient transfer funds.

"That we can go to any stadium and think about going to win, rather than thinking that a draw might be a good result".

"Jamaal has a great potential, but if you cannot compete or you cannot keep the level of your team, then maybe you have to sell one player to be sure that you can bring in other players".

Striker Joselu tweeted: "I just can say THANK YOU". You will need some money, and you will need a way to spend that money.

When Rafa joined he reignited something that has been missing from the club for years and with him here, he has ignited the passion or spirit in others. Since he has been here he has transformed the club and city, it would be silly for us not to keep him happy and let him have what he wants.

"I would like to thank Rafa Benitez for his magnificent achievement this season", said Ashley, who put the club up for sale late previous year.

"As players he has a lot of respect from us".

Rafa Benitez labelled it a "perfect Sunday".

"As players, we've got to cross the white line but we follow instructions from somewhere, and that's the gaffer".

"Now, we have to make sure that we do the right things and are on the same page. Once we have got this game out of the way then we can focus on what direction he wants us to go".
