Ajayi done for season with reported torn ACL

After third loss in five games Eagles again point to self-inflicted mistakes

A previous report from Josh Reed of WIVB in Buffalo suggested the Eagles have already reached out to the Bills about a possible trade for McCoy.

The Philadelphia Eagles are in need of a running back after starter Jay Ajayi went down with a season-ending torn ACL.

McCoy, 30, spent his first six seasons in Philadelphia rushing for at least 1,000 in four of those.

And Shady hasn't slowed since, registering three Pro Bowl seasons in three full years in Buffalo. Philadelphia could certainly fit the latter part of the bill, and the team was willing to trade a fourth-round pick to the Dolphins past year for a lesser back in Ajayi. That automatically fueled rumors of a trade for Le'Veon Bell, but ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen reported that is not Philadelphia's plan.

Jay Ajayi's lasting memory from the 2018 season will be fumbling inside the five-yard line in a 23-21 loss to the Vikings. Well, the Eagles are at least semi-interested, it appears. To judge from the slew of reactions Monday to Ajayi's injury, "over the top" could also fairly apply to the excitement about the prospect of Philly swinging a trade for one of the league's best backs.

The Eagles have restructured defensive tackle Fletcher Cox's contract, which created more cap space for this year ($6.5 million) and next ($11.7 million).
