Adam Levine Will Turn Over His Voice Seat to Gwen Stefani

Adam Levine is leaving "The Voice" after 16 seasons as a judge, host Carson Daly announced Friday on the "Today" show.

The current lineup includes John Legend and Kelly Clarkson, both of whom are returning for season 17.

He will be replaced by Gwen Stefani, who last served as a judge/coach on The Voice during its 12th season. "Gonna miss working with that idiot", the Tishomingo resident added. I am truly honored to have been a part of something I'll always cherish for the rest of my life.

"To start an unbelievable show from the ground up is a big deal!"

Despite being previously confirmed as a coach on season 17 of The Voice, it was announced on May 24 that Adam Levine will not be returning. Gwen took on the role as a coach on The Voice for a number of different seasons, including the 7th, 9th, and the 12th. "I'm in shock." Tell us how you really feel, Levine.

John - whose contestant Maelyn Jarmon was crowned the Season 16 victor on May 21 - replied to the lengthy official statement that Adam posted on Instagram about his decision to step away from the show.

The show issued a statement today about Levine's departure, calling it "see you soon" rather than "goodbye".

Despite leaving the show being a hard decision for him he took some time to show his appreciation and thankfulness for the opportunity on Instagram.

Levine's exit came as a surprise to many, particularly fellow judge and frenemy Blake Shelton, with whom Levine would often playfully feud with on the show. Seriously. I tried. Can't do it.

"The Voice" stars reacted to the news on social media. Our friendship is and always will be one for the books. Thank you Carson Daly for babysitting the musicians and making sure our shoes were tied and we had our lunch boxes. "You're my brother for life", he gushed.

"He'll always be a cherished member of 'The Voice' family".

How do you feel about a Levine-less Voice? While NBC didn't reveal why the Maroon 5 singer decided not to return for another season, Clarkson hinted his decision to quit the singing show may have been because he was ready for something new. "To start an awesome show from the ground up is a big deal!" "We're looking forward to having Gwen back next season, it should be a ton of fun". Season 11 victor Sundance Head tweeted, "The Voice is a Family and it really is see ya soon!"
