Cindy Porter watched nervously as the flames from a brush fire grew closer to her home on Underwood Road in Garlands Crossing April 12

They found a small structure that was fully engulfed in flames.

The victim was rushed to Christiana Hospital to be treated for burns and smoke inhalation, Chionchio said. "We don't know what the outcome is going to be, but we will deal with that whenever that happens", Chief Dyer said.

"St. Stephens Fire Department will continue to grow with staffing and equipment moving into the future to continue the superior service that we now provide", the release states, adding the next step is for SSFD to implementing an improved training program. "It was bad", said Emory McKheean, a neighbor. It's about 13 years old, but the commissioner says it's had extensive maintenance. They received treatment at Fairview Hospital in Wyoming.

One firefighter was also evaluated after possibly suffering heat exhaustion.

The fire was deemed suspicious in nature and is still under investigation.

Pyles says as soon as he transported Henderson, he got word that another firefighter was injured.

According to officials, the call came in before 5:30.

Despite Sylvain's efforts, the house was still damaged, and two dogs were lost in the fire. Another was taken by ambulance. At this time the cats are reported to have recovered from this event.

We are told that the road is blocked off to traffic right now while crews are working to clear the scene.
