2 local Sam's Club stores to close

Wal-Mart to Raise Minimum US Wage to $11 an Hour--4th Update

"Instead, they learned that their store would be closing when they found the store's doors locked and a notice announcing the closure".

"Transforming our business means managing our real estate portfolio - we need a strong fleet of clubs that are fit for the future", the CEO said in a company-wide email, Business Insider reported.

Sam's Club Stores in Manchester and Orange were closed Thursday, according to signs at the two stores.

Employees tell News 3 they were informed of the closure Thursday morning. At least 10 of the stores will be transformed into e-commerce distribution centers, paving the way for former store employees to apply for these positions, according to a Walmart official.

It's not clear how many employees work at the San Pedro location but Sam's Club stores typically have about 150 employees, Hatfield said.

There are four Sam's Club stores located in the Austin area. The only other Florida store on that list was in the town of Fern Park, near Altamonte Springs. "We will reopen the club tomorrow", Anne Hatfield, director of communications for Walmart's public affairs, said in a statement to KENS.

Sam's Club has made a decision to close some of its stores across the country.

Business Insider also said employees at other locations were not told their store had closed before showing up to work.

The news comes on the same day that Walmart announced it was boosting its minimum hourly wage for its USA employees to $11 and dishing out bonuses ranging from $200 on up to $1,000 for employees with 20 or more years with the company.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
